QUALIFICATIONS
Put your qualifications loud and proud on your CVs because you don’t want schools asking, “what qualifications does he/she have?” or “he/she has not finished their PGCE yet, when will they graduate?” Employers should be able to see that information straight away.
Do you have any teaching qualifications and are they clear on your CV?
Is your degree in Education, and did you do any practical classes?
If you’re completing a qualification, when will you graduate?
EXPERIENCE
Your experience should be crystal clear and detailed, as you’ll likely be applying for a similar role (or giving something new a shot!). Schools regularly ask us “what age groups has the teacher taught in the past?” or “what curriculums have they used before?” so the school can assess if you’re suitable for the role you’re applying for.
What age group have you taught in the past? Does it match the role you’re applying for and if not, why do you want to move up or down?
Which curricula are you familiar with and have taught before?
Will you receive a positive reference from your current school?
SALARY
The dreaded question that everybody tries to avoid, “what is their current salary?” and “what are the teacher’s salary expectations?” Full transparency will most definitely work in your favour here but be realistic depending on your experience and qualifications. It is better to get an interview, kill it, and then negotiate - rather than never have the chance to shine in the first place. Don’t price yourself out of the market! Ask us for advice if you’re not sure.

CV
Of course, your CV should outline your experience and achievements, but sometimes you might have gaps or inconsistencies that an employer will question. Be prepared to answer questions, like we have, such as “why are there so many gaps in this CV?” or “why has this teacher changed jobs every year or less, are they going to leave us early too?”.
Can you explain any CV gaps?
Regarding job stability, have you stayed at each school for the full contract period?
Is there a reason why you have switched jobs each year or even more frequently?
PERSONAL
Proudly explain your achievements and hobbies; schools love to hear about them! Perhaps you’re a basketball enthusiast who’s eager to set up an after-school club? This can really help give your application a boost. Schools would also like to know how many dependents you have, what visa you have, and lastly… when can you start?!

Do you have any hobbies or extra skills? What do you do in your spare time
When can you start?
